A simple way to be part of the solution

Climate solutions for forward thinking food & beverage businesses.

Give your customers what they want

Making it easy for ANY business to take climate action.

Zero Foodprint began as an effort for restaurants to reduce and eventually zero out their climate impacts. After crunching all the numbers, one thing was clear: the vast majority of the emissions inherent in a meal happen before the ingredients ever make it to the restaurant or processing facility. Food and beverage production accounts for more than 1/3 of global emissions, but it doesn’t have to be that way.

We can change the way that food is grown. By directly funding practices like compost application, managed grazing, and cover-cropping, Zero Foodprint members team up with farmers to create healthier soil, which makes more delicious, nutritious, and resilient crops while also conserving water and drawing down carbon.

“There are two things I love about being a part of Zero Foodprint. One, their strategy is clear, direct and impactful. Their model is to pay farmers to practice regenerative agriculture to sequester carbon, which is both good for the soil and good for the climate. And two, being part of Zero Foodprint is easy. This is crucial. There’s so much to do as a small-business owner, I need our participation to be as clear and simple as possible.”

Taking climate action, collectively.

Dozens of businesses and their customers use a few cents to make every purchase part of a local climate solution. Zero Foodprint collects those funds then teams up with farmers, ranchers and local conservation experts to optimally end equitably build healthy soil and restore carbon. In this way, we’re closing the loop in local food economies to improve soil health.

  • It’s a very simple process. You choose your contribution level and sign a simple agreement (you can exit at any time), and we provide tools for you to communicate your good work. Fill out this the business membership form, and we will contact you! Note: Supply chain investment requirements differ.

  • Small contributions add up to big change! No amount is too small, but we prefer to work with businesses that can commit to a minimum of $20 per month.

  • 95% of what our members raise goes to farmers and their technical assistance providers.

  • No! While we started in the restaurant industry, we have members that are CPG’s, wineries, distilleries, caterers, composters, coffee shops, and more. We find that our messaging works best for food and beverage businesses, but we’re happy to work with most businesses interested in investing in a regenerative future.

  • Project Drawdown estimated that a 1% investment of global GDP into climate solutions could provide the resources we need to solve the climate crisis & the businesses that we analyzed could could have all gone “carbon neutral” with an investment of 1% of their sales.

  • We’re agnostic as to how you collect the 1%. Some members choose to incorporate into their pricing others choose to add a 1% surcharge, and allow customers opt out upon request. We’re happy to provide examples of how other businesses have chosen to implement.

  • Each POS and invoicing system works differently, but we have instructions for how to apply to the most common systems, and can support you to work with your technology and bookkeeping teams to figure out the others.

  • We like to say that it’s so easy that a teenager can do it, and they do, every day at 5 locations of Subway in Boulder, CO. Most employees are excited to be a part of restoring the climate. We provide training materials,, short videos, sample communications and we can schedule trainings for your team when you sign up.
