Silacci Dairy

Step by step

Bringing a carbon farm plan to life, one step at a time.

This is Silacci Dairy, a third-generation family dairy with 200 Holstein and Jersey milking cows. They also grow alfalfa and clover as feed for the animals and steward 196 acres of grassland for pasture.

In 2020, Jessica and Ben developed a carbon farm plan with Sonoma Resource Conservation District and Straus Family Creamery’s sustainability team. The Carbon Farm Plan provides a roadmap for reducing the dairy farm’s climate impact through regenerative agricultural practices.

Their Zero Foodprint grant was put towards compost and planting trees and shrubs around their pond to create wildlife habitat, sequester carbon and keep their water clean.
