Happy Goat

Not your typical farm

Funding regeneration through NFTs, glamping, and a space for creatives.

So…why goats? Besides being CUTE. Goats are browsers, meaning they eat weeds and woody stuff that nothing else will eat. This protects the landscape from fires by clearing up to 7 feet of brush. They are also an integral part of the farms plans to produce Savory Certified cashmere. Happy Goat used their Restore CA grant to plant a row of trees which protect their crops from wind and chemical drift. Elsewhere, they planted native elderberry trees, and plan to turn the berries into an immune-boosting syrup or tincture.

Plus, they’ve been hard at work building a goat barn and six greenhouses for growing tender crops like cucumbers, tomatoes and peppers. Happy Goat partners with three local elementary schools (including hosting field trips!) with the ultimate goal of shifting cafeteria sourcing to fresh, local produce.

“They give you the funds to take more risk. Farming for a lot of people is a tight business, the margins are pretty small, to take a huge risk or a gamble on something that may or may not work is scary or maybe not even doable. If you get a grant, you get the opportunity to try something new, that could totally work and if it does work, you’ll probably keep doing it.”
